What is FSSAI?
Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) of 2006 established FSSAI or Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

What is that FSSAI Registration?

What are the types of FSSAI Food Licences?
The types of FSSAI Food licenses are :
• Basic FSSAI Registration- Annual turnover of less than Rs. 12 Lakhs
• State FSSAI Licence- Annual turnover between Rs.12 Lakhs- Rs. 20 crores
• Central FSSAI Licence- Annual turnover more than Rs.20 crores

What are the documents required for FSSAI Registration?
The documents required for FSSAI Registration are as follows :
• Latest Passport-sized photograph of the candidate
• Identification proof (voter ID card or Aadhaar Card)
• PAN Card
• Address Proof which can be an Electricity or Gas Bill or mobile/Landline bill
• Copy of Property papers (if owned)

• Copy of Rent Agreement along with the NOC. A letter from the Landlord if you are on rent.

What is the validity period for the FSSAI Licence?
The FSSAI License is valid for the period from1 to 5 years, after that, the FBO needs to apply for FSSAI Licence renewal.

Do I need to issue a different FSSAI License for the different states?
Yes, you have to take a Central FSSAI license for the main branch or head office
and the state licenses for any specific state. To assure stable business operation
for food business crossing over various states of the country.

I am importing food items for selling in India even then it requires FSSAI Licence?
Yes, you will be needed to get a central license from the address included in the Import Export Code. For import-export FSSAI central license is necessary.

What if I didn’t apply for the renewal of my FSSAI within the specified time?
If you could not apply for renewal, at least 30 days before the expiry of your existing Food Safety Certificate, you would need to pay a late fine of Rs. 100 per day, during the delay.

If, however, the 30 days are also over. It implies that your FSSAI number has expired, and you will have to apply for a new FSSAI food license.

Which license is required by a food business operator to run a food business in more than two states?
Food Business Operator operating in more than two States has to get Central License for its registered Office/ Head Office and separate license/ Registration for each units depending upon the capacity/ turnover from the concerned State/ Central Licensing Authority.

Which foods are covered under the Non-Specified Category?
• Novel food, novel food ingredients, and/or prepared using a novel technology,
• Food or food ingredients with a history (at least 15-years) of human consumption, but not defined anywhere under the Act.
• New food additives,
• Processing aids and enzymes,
• Food and/or food ingredients consisting of or isolated from micro-organisms, algae or fungi.

What are the labeling requirements of Imported Food Items?
Labeling requirements of Imported Food Items are mentioned under Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labeling) Regulations, 2011, Food Safety and Standards (Import) Regulations, 2017, other specific FSS Regulations and other labeling requirements are mentioned in various guidelines, orders, instructions issued by FSSAI from time to time which are available on FSSAI website.

Under what circumstances can they do cancel the license?
If the food business operator fails to comply with the improvement notice, the DO may, after giving the licensee an opportunity to show cause, cancel the license.

What is the meaning of Food Recall?
A food article that has been sold, distributed, and, maybe, consumed (partially). And, is later found to be harmful or in violation of the provisions of the Act. Under Food Recall, this product is to be removed from the market, customers who have already bought it, or stages of distribution. This is done to prevent, reduce or eliminate a risk that may result from its consumption.

What is Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS)?
An effective FSMS plan monitors every step involved in the handling of the product (food). It includes good practices, hazards analysis management, regulatory requirements, system statutory, record-keeping, and communications. It is executed to ensure that food is safe and contamination-free from the very first stage of production, procurement & handling, to manufacturing, distribution & consumption of the final product. And that the hygiene has been preserved at all steps. The main objective of its implementation can only be achieved by involving all employees and associates.
